How it works
Three steps, no signup for the check.
1. Paste your text
Anything in English: a post, a client email, a chapter, a landing page. The check runs on our server, your text is not saved, and nothing goes to a third party for it.
2. We point at the habits
A reader who says "this sounds like a machine" is reacting to specific things. These are the ones we look for:
- Contrast sentences. "not just X, but Y". People say the thing once.
- Wind-ups. "here's the thing", "the truth is", the sentence before the sentence.
- Inflating phrases. "plays a vital role", "a testament to", "stands as".
- Passive voice. "the invoice was handled by" instead of who did what.
- Words that spike in machine text. leverage, seamless, robust, landscape, testament, delve.
- Vague links. "tied to", "associated with", a connection with nothing behind it.
- -ing tails. "…, highlighting the importance of consistency".
- Leftovers. "I hope this helps", "as of my last update", "would you like me to".
- Rhythm tells. Two sentences opening on the same word, a three-word fragment dropped at the end, lists that always come in threes. These need a text of at least 80 words before we say anything, because short notes are short.
We list weak signals separately: "actually", hyphenated compounds, curly quotes from Word or an iPhone keyboard, a single dash. They turn up in human writing constantly, so we never count them as faults.
3. The rewrite
Short concrete sentences. A person at the front of the sentence. The filler gone. The meaning kept. We pass the rewrite through the same checks and show you what came out.
What we won't do
We don't tell you whether a machine wrote something. There is no reliable way to do that, and we are not going to sell you a number that pretends otherwise. We also don't promise any particular score from any detector anywhere.
Limits
Checking is free up to 20,000 characters per paste, 30 checks a day. Rewriting up to 300 words is free once a day. One full rewrite a day of up to 1,000 words comes with an email, and a given draft can be rewritten once. The check runs on our server and never leaves it; a rewrite goes to our model provider because you asked for one.
